Black brides like all others want the best for their wedding day. Being an African bride comes with it's own special set of considerations that aren't always necessarily addressed in the popular bridal magazines. Your wedding day is hands-down one of the most special days of your life so naturally you're going to want to make sure that everything is as close to perfect as possible.
So what are some of the things that an African American bride is going to want to have a good handle on for her big day? Well there's hair and makeup, clothes and accessories, food and favors... there are the invitations and decorations, songs and dancing, and let's not forget the gifts and gift registry...
Black Brides Check-Off List
Let's start with looks because face it, other than the memories of the big day, the pictures and the video/DVD of the event is all we will be left with as a memorial. Yes, it sounds superficial but you want to make sure you are the most beautiful African bride on your wedding day. Wedding hair and makeup are huge... you don't want to go wrong here.
African American Makeup
An African American bride needs makeup that fits her skin tone... and we do come in a wide spectrum of skin tones. You don't want to look washed out but you also don't want to look too "painted up". If you can't do your makeup professionally yourself and you don't have any friends that can do a better-than-decent job of it, you'll definitely want to hire a professional for this job. This will be money well spent if you do home work properly.
African American Wedding Hairstyles
Then there's the hair... we know we have a very special relationship with our hair that no one else seems to understand. More than any other day, this is the day you're going to want your hair on point... Decide now that this day destined not to be a bad hair day.
African Wedding Jewelry
Certain types of jewelry are uniquely used for African weddings. From beads to precious metals, these all hold a special significance. If you have family heirlooms that are passed down you may also choose to wear those as well. Of course you'll also want to coordinate the jewelry of the ladies in your bridal train as well.

African Mail Order Bride
Before you jump to any conclusions I want to quickly say that this is not as bad as it sounds. I realize that in the West the mail-order bride has received a bad rap but there are some redeeming aspects to having/acquiring a mail-order spouse... That's right, I said "mail-order spouse" because a mail order groom is also not a totally unheard-of concept either.
